The Yoga Sutra is a tool to gain inner
freedom. Inner freedom means to be able to
dictate our mind what to do, what it needs to
think or when it should be quiet rather than our
mind bossing us around. Studying the Yoga Sutra is
a training that teaches you to use your mind in
the same efficient and creative way as asana
is a training to use your body. For this purpose
we need to be able to understand and free
us from our conditioning (vasana). You will
understand how conditioning is created by
your past thoughts, words and actions and
how to change future conditioning by changing your present thoughts, words and actions.

Another important goal of Yoga Sutra is the integration of meditative experiences
or glimpses into our life. We may have had great experiences of happiness but without their proper integration, apart from the actual moment of experience, they are often not of lasting value. The Yoga Sutra helps us to put them into perspective and integrate them into our lives, leading to lasting change.

These hours can be put towards a Yoga Alliance or Yoga Australia accredited teacher training.

This workshop is taught over one full weekends (approx. 16 hours). All prices in Australian Dollars.

  1. Hi Gregor,
I am interested by this workshop but only started a 1-month ashtanga yoga introduction course recently.
Do you think this workshop is suitable for a beginner?

    Thank you!

    • Hello Jet,

I do think it is suitable for you. The workshop focuses on the Yoga Sutra. I will synthesize my understanding gained through 40 years of yoga practice into the ancient commentaries of the Sutra. I wish I would have come across this information at the outset of my yoga career. So in some ways it would be best to know all this even before you start.
In regards to the asana section (2hours each morning) it will be a technical talk-through of about two thirds of the Primary Series. Again it is very important that practitioners here this information as early as possible on their yogic path. The class is not particularly fast as I’m stopping for a lot of details. I think a moderately fit person should find it easy. I always discourage students from being gung-ho and ambitious, rather than that handling your body compassionately and intelligently.

Hope to see you in Melbs
